Soujanya House

Kolkata’s humility and opulence embodied through architecture in its true sense

Kolkata’s humility, as well as opulence, is depicted through Soujanya House, which is planned as a state guest house for hosting important dignitaries and guests of the West Bengal Government. With a very geometric layout in plan and elevation, Soujanya House marks its association with authority and the Government through its scale. The otherwise plain elevation is interlaced with trellis work occasionally to break the monotony. The interiors have been dealt with simplicity ensuring a very humble color palette of mono-tones. This has been sporadically broken through the use of dark color furniture sets in different rooms or through its flooring. This building is surrounded by an equally geometric landscape setting that along with creating vistas for the visitor of the place also helps in organizing the traffic movement in the complex.
